Cruise along the Thames and witness Oxford like you've never seen it before. Witness the tranquil countryside in its abundance; bird wildlife chirping as they swoop and dive, horses and cows quietly chomping on grass and laying in the summer sun, whilst the river is in full flow with rowers, boats and cruisers intermingling together, making Oxfordshire a bustling, yet charming, place to be.
The cruise includes a gourmet picnic with only the freshest, best produce that is available, and all on one of these delightful boats; Golden Slumbers, Bacchanalia, Little Ox or Pantalaimon. It is a beautiful, quintessential way to spend a British afternoon whilst travelling through the city of Oxford, taking in famous sights such as Christchurch College and Meadows, the University boathouses and regatta course as well as the Head of the River and Folly Bridge. As you follow the river round, you will also find yourself in rare territory that consists of the breath-taking gardens and well-loved allotments as well as the majestic Port Meadow.
Following Port Meadow is Godstow which was the ultimate destination of the infamous Alice Liddell and iconic children's author, Lewis Carroll. They followed the exact route this Oxford Picnic Lunch Cruise for Two takes whilst writing his classic, "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland". This wonderland of Oxfordshire reveals Trout Island which was the inspiration behind C.S. Lewis's "Chronicles of Narnia" stories. If you know a literary lover, and English Literature student, or an obsessive of children's books, this would be the ideal experience for them! What more could they wish for, but sitting exactly where their beloved literary heroes thought of their bestselling work?

What did you get up to?
We departed from The Folly restaurant on a gorgeous Edwardian style river boat which is powered by an electric engine making the journey very peaceful. After we boarded the boat we were presented with a cute picnic basket containing a delicious spread of food such as tarts, sandwiches and scones. The boat left Folly Bridge and wound its way up towards Port Meadow going through Osney Lock on the way. Our guide/crew member gave a great commentary as we went along. After turning around at Godstow Lock we headed back down the river stopping off at a lovely pub for a quick drink and comfort break.
What did you enjoy the most?
The whole trip was lovely including the warm welcome from the restaurant staff, the beautiful boat, delicious picnic, the amusing and knowledgeable guide and, of course, the beautiful scenery.

Not yet used, it was a present for friends

It's very difficult to rate a purchase when we won't experience it until next summer! The reason why I'm only giving 3 stars is because I did not receive a gift certificate with the purchase that I can give my partner for her Christmas present... and they refuse to change their policy.

Not much of Oxford viewed
We had waited a year to book our experience due to illness and were really looking forward to an afternoon on the river with our friends. Whilst the talk from our guide was fun he appeared to know little about the tour itself. The picnic was very good and the guide was entertaining but imagine our disappointment when we were dropped for a whole hour to visit a pub if we wanted to and then on returning to the boat we were going back early until someone onboard asked if we could go up river a bit further.
Nothing in the advertising materials was covered and we certainly did not see much of Oxford.
Such a shame because we were really looking forward to this trip.

An enjoyable experience
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the river cruise and the weather was pleasant which was a bonus.
The picnic was exceptional, all the food was tasty and freshly prepared.
The only disappointment was not actually being able to see the beautiful buildings of Oxford from the boat. The city is not familiar to us so our expectations of this element were obviously too high.
We did however see some interesting parts of the city and waterway and enjoyed the excellent commentary throughout.
We would certainly recommend this trip.
