We booked to stay with Wortwell Hall Barn Bed and Breakfast and took the afternoon tea separate at The Tally Ho tea room. The hosts Clive and Jenny and their beautiful dog Roxie at Wortwell Hall Barn were fantastic and super welcoming, it felt as though you were visiting friends. They gave us tons of useful information as well as the local walking guides which was extremely helpful to explore the beautiful countryside of this rural venue. The bed is extremely comfortable. The breakfast was superb, although I have to admit my eyes were a bit too big for my belly!
The tea at Tally Ho tea rooms, was excellent, you had lots to choose from with 12 different tea varieties, and a whole host of sandwiches, which me and my guest got to choose one each from. There was so much food, that we ended up defeated and having to take a few of the cakes home to enjoy later! I would recommend this break to anyone looking to escape the hectic day to day life and recharge your batteries.
The overall experience is 10 out of 10! The Duke of Marlborough hotel has two buildings - the front building is a pub/restaurant and the back building is the accommodations. Some wooden patio tables & benches are scattered near the pub. The weather was lovely this Easter weekend and I enjoyed sunbathing on the benches, drinking cider and reading a book!
The hotel is easy to find. It is just next to A44, but because the rooms are at the back of the pub, they are quite and far away from traffic. The hotel is only two miles away from the well-known historical town Woodstock. There are a few free gates into Blenheim Palace nearby, but please check as they do charge on some days and these gates will not get you access to the buildings themselves, just the grounds. Families with children may like to visit the Cotswolds Wildlife Park, which is only a 30 minutes driving away. A small village called Wootton is just next to the hotel within walking distance. It is a lovely, picturesque English village, but the roads are too narrow for driving! Please note The Killingworth Castle in Wootton on Google Map is a pub, not a real castle. It's still worth a visit for drinks or food.
Our room is comfy and has everything we need. It provides tea/coffee/biscuits, USB outlets, full bath & shower, toiletries, etc. A petrol station is just next door, so if you need anything essentials that you forgot to bring, you can just pop over and grab it.
One English afternoon tea is included in the experience. You can pick either day to have your treat! The afternoon tea includes Tea/coffee, scones, clotted cream and jam, two kinds of cakes and a variety of sandwiches - Just what you want for a summer afternoon!
