Poor health & safety for customer & staff care
This booking was a gift from our son and was through Red letter day, we made the booking for my husbands birthday for when we got back from a cruise for our 50th wedding anniversary. Unfortunately we contracted covid whilst on the ship and tested positive on our return. I rang the hotel to change the booking to another date for both their safety and their customers but was told that we would lose all our money and that we should attend anyway regarding of having covid. We had self isolated for a week but having multiple sclerosis I was still not well.
I can see no valid reason for the date not to be put back for a short period, we were told we should have taken out insurance for the gift, (not something I even considered and was not suggested on booking) I feel that a change of date was appropriate but refused, this should have been changed to protect both their staff and customers. This company has no regard for health and safety.

A very agreeable night's stay
Overall a very satisfactory stay. Friendly and professional staff allied to a relaxed and historic ambience. (The residents' lounge in particular is superb, while the bar is intimate and friendly.)
The food, especially breakfast, is first rate.
Our room's general decor was in keeping with the rest of the property, helping create the real feel of a Georgian house.
Our only disappointment was to find several, minor, faults in the refurbishment of our suite - Room No 8. None were worth complaining about, but it does seem there has been a lack of attention to detail when finishing this conversion. For example the fireback plate of the bedroom fireplace is broken, has been re-fitted upside down and has a gap clearly showing a rather lurid green foam filler behind it. This filler is also on display around several of the beams in the bathroom roof. Also the right hand sliding shower cubicle door (as you look at it from outside) kept coming off its
