What did you get up to?
We arrived for our experience on the hottest day of the year so far. After a sweltering, but very picturesque walk down the Embankment we came to Festival Pier, where our boat was moored. We were guided onto the boat by the crew and given our complimentary glass of Prosecco before being shown to our table on the top deck. The table were well spaced and dressed in white linen. It was quite an experience drinking prosecco whilst gazing out across the water to the Houses of Parliament.
As we set sail the captain gave us our route and pointed out all the sights, giving us interesting facts about the places we passed. The intrepid boat made its way past the Houses of Parliament before turning to head down stream on our way to Canary Wharf.
Our afternoon tea was served with a variety of sandwiches, scones and cakes as well as a choice of tea or coffee to wash them down with. The food was fresh and tasty and there was plenty for the both of us. The Red Velvet cake was especially good.
After eating we were encouraged to go onto the viewing decks on the front and rear of the boat. The views were stunning and we thoroughly enjoyed waving at the passing boats as we headed through Docklands towards Canary Wharf. Here was a side of London we hadn't seen before. We saw beaches and secret coves along the sides of the river and some amazing new buildings that seem to be growing all the time.
All in all the whole experience lasted and hour and three quarters and we never felt rushed.
What did you enjoy the most?
We really enjoyed the standing on the back of the boat looking at Canary Wharf from this angle. We were lucky enough to see Thames RIB doing a boat ride around us at this time!
What did you get up to?
Upon arrival at the DoubleTree by Hilton in London West End my friend and I were immediately in awe of the venue and decor. The hotel is absolutely beautiful and very welcoming. We were seated by staff straight away and asked what type of tea we would like. We were asked whether we would like our champagne served before or after we had eaten - I think it was great that you're given a choice so your champagne remains chilled for when you're ready to enjoy it. After a short wait our afternoon tea was served! We enjoyed a large plate of sandwiches with different fillings such as cucumber & soft cheese or honey glazed gammon & grain mustard, they were all delicious! The homemade sultana scones were served slightly warm with clotted cream and strawberry jam. We then enjoyed various delicious cakes such as mini Victoria sponges, raspberry mousse, chocolate mousse and pecan sponge cake. We had the most amazing day in a lovely venue and I would certainly recommend the afternoon tea to anyone!
