Overview

Every parent and their child should experience driving around in a tank together and firing giant paintballs at targets! Some say it’s the ultimate bonding activity.

This is called a Dads & Lads experience but don’t let that put you off, Mums & Daughters, this one is for you too!

Get kitted up in the official tank-driving uniform, comprising of a specialist tank suit and helmet.

This tank experience starts with a health & safety briefing and a talk on the history of your tank for the day, followed by a demo on how the controls work.

Before you get stuck in yourselves, the friendly instructor will drive you around the course, showing you how to drive the tank, while you sit in the turret seats and enjoy the thrilling view, as the tank rumbles along the rough terrain.

Then it’s time for the parent to take the wheel! The first lap will be with the hatch open, while you get to grips with manoeuvring the tank, and the second lap will be with the hatch down, using the periscope alone! If their parent’s driving isn’t too scary, the child can sit up front and really be part of the action. Your instructor will be giving you handy tips and instructions as you go, via a headset to get that real combat feel!

Once the basics are down, it’s time for the youngster to start firing some paintballs! Learn how to load up the cannon and how to aim and fire. Launch giant paintballs from the tank and try and hit the bullseye. This is where we find out which one of you has the best skills. We know who we’re rooting for!

The fun doesn’t stop there – you’re also welcome to look around the on-site museum, with some incredible examples of famous tanks, including some used in big screen movies such as Saving Private Ryan & Evita.

There’s also an on-site café, if you want to sit and relax and talk about the awesome experience you’ve just had.

Tank you very much!

What did you get up to?
We found the location very easily after going through a small quaint village, we were very early so stopped off and enjoyed a great lunch at the local pub.
After lunch we moved on to Armageddon only 2 miles further down the road. We had a stroll around the museum while we waited for our experience at 14:30. After the museum, we grabbed a snack and watched others taking part in their experiences.
Charles took us to the tank and explained a lot about it answering every question we had confidently. We got in and it is very tight to move around and there was only 2 of us, hard to imagine what it is like with more than that. Charles took us round the 1st lap and then we stopped and shot the paintballs! The tank driving was one lap through the top while being able to see everything and then with the hatch closed, great fun but with the hatch closed it is tight and you can see very little, only relying on the commands from above. After all this you get to reverse park a 17.5 ton tank, interesting comes to mind.

What did you enjoy the most?
Firing paintballs from the tank whilst listening carefully to the commands from above! It was a great sense of achievement!
Top Tip
Can be a little dusty so may want to wear older clothes although overalls are provided.

Fun but not value.
A little disappointed that the vehicle was a personnel carrier with a turret and not an actual tank as advertised. Fun to be in though and the instructor was friendly and knowledgeable. The gun is air powered, firing golf ball sized paint balls, fun but I expected something better. The route is a little sad, an oval around a flat field, maybe more could be done here, some up and down and maybe a ford or something. Sum up? Good fun , but no where near value for £170.

My son and I really did enjoy the experience. However, and perhaps just a point of order, they are not tanks. They are APC’s with a turret. That aside, the instructor knew his stuff and was good fun. The shooting was fun, but disappointed to find you fire golf ball paint balls with a compressed air gun. Fun , but not in any way realistic. My son then drove the “tank” which is two laps around a flat field, I had expected a little more for the £170. Then we were asked to spend another £27 on their photo package. The museum is good fun, and needs to be because the tank experience is very short.

Open to all
A brilliant visit, not just for lads and dad's. Bought this for my girlfriend's birthday, she loved it. Mick the instructor was extremely informative and put us both at ease. The museum is full of interesting factoids.
